Long-time Birmingham financial institution First American Bank was converted into RBC Bank last June, 2,008. Earlier this year, the Raleigh, N.C.-based RBC Bank, the North American subsidiary of Toronto-based Royal Bank of Canada, purchased First American's owner, Alabama National BanCorp., for $1.6 billion.
First American Bank is the lead bank of the publicly traded Alabama National BanCorporation holding company. Alabama National BanCorporation is the holding company for many bank subsidiaries in Alabama, Florida and Georgia, who all share in the same philosophy of local bank decision making and personalized service.
